Disclaimer and How We Choose Sources

Angel Jake shares dog stories, guides, news, and reviews. This page explains what the site is and isn’t, and how we choose the sources behind each post.

Not veterinary advice

I’m not a vet. Everything on Angel Jake is general information for dog owners, and it can’t replace an exam, a diagnosis, or treatment from your own veterinarian.

⚠️ Please call your vet or an emergency clinic right away if your dog may be in danger. In the US, the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center is (888) 426-4435 (a consultation fee may apply).

How we choose sources

Facts about health and breeds, such as diseases, lifespan, genetics, size, and coat color, come from sources like these:

  • Veterinary organizations, such as the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA)
  • Breed authorities, such as the American Kennel Club (AKC) and official breed clubs
  • Veterinary hospitals and references, such as VCA Animal Hospitals and the Merck Veterinary Manual
  • University veterinary schools
  • Peer-reviewed research

Most guides and news posts also include a Korean source, such as a column by a Korean veterinarian or a Korean news report. Angel Jake comes from a life with dogs in both Korea and the United States, and we think both views help.

We don’t use Wikipedia or other open-edit wikis as sources for health facts. Each guide and news post lists its sources at the end, so you can read the originals yourself.

Stories and reviews

Posts about Jake, Simba, and Terry describe our own experience. What worked for our dogs may not work for yours, so please check with your vet before changing your dog’s food, care, or medication.

News and studies

News posts and study summaries are written for everyday dog lovers. Details can change after we publish, and one study can’t tell the whole story, so please check the linked sources for the latest information.

Photos

Photos of Jake, Simba, and Terry are our own. Other photos come from free-licensed sources such as Wikimedia Commons, and we credit each one under the image with the photographer and license. A few posts use graphics we made ourselves, and some older posts still use illustrations, which we’re replacing over time.
